Hail Mary

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen.

There are two parts to The Hail Mary prayer.  The first part comes right out of scripture.  “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.” (Luke 1:28).   Is what the Angel Gabriel said to Mary at the time of the Annunciation. “The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.”  (Luke 1:42). Is what St. Elizabeth, John the Baptist’s mother, said to Mary when Mary went to help Elizabeth with her pregnancy during the Visitation.

The second part of the prayer is a petition to Mary for prayer.  “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of death.”
