The Rosary is a meditation not just a repetition of the same prayers.  Meditation for Catholics is different than other religions.  Most people think of meditation of a clear mind or conscious but Catholic meditation is active and reflective.  While praying the rosary Catholics reflect on the mysteries of Jesus Christ.  This reflection brings us closer to Christ’s suffering and sorrow, joys, teachings and glory.   The Rosary is an extremely powerful prayer and should be prayed daily.

The Prayer:

Each day focus on one Mystery.  Below is the traditional order of reflection:

  • Monday – Joyful Mysteries
  • Tuesday – Sorrowful Mysteries
  • Wednesday – Glorious Mysteries

  • Sunday – Glorious Mysteries

  • Crowning with Thorns
  • Carrying the Cross
  • Crucifixion

  • Say the Glory Be to the Father

(This covers the first three beads of the Rosary)

  • Announce the First Mystery of the Mystery you are reflecting
  • Say One Our Father
  • Say ten Hail Marys while reflecting on the mystery – one for each bead
  • Say the Glory Be to the Father
  • Say the Fatima Prayer – “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.”

(You do this five times, while announcing the mystery you are reflecting on prior to each decade of the Rosary)

Conclusion Prayers of the Rosary

  • Say one Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina)
  • Closing Prayer – Let us pray. O GOD, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

The Rosary is a beautiful prayer and needs to be a part of your life.  The Rosary can change the world and you.

“The Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer and the most efficacious means of attaining eternal life.
It is the remedy for all our evils, the root of all our blessings.  There is no more excellent way of praying.”

-Pope Leo XII
